Making Traditional Energy Cleaner and More Efficient

The first step in any successful energy transition is to optimize the resources we already have. At Powerhouse Energy Services, we are transforming our traditional energy operations into models of efficiency and sustainability. Our work at the Placerita oil field serves as a powerful case study for this approach.


We operate a cogeneration (Cogen) power plant that supplies essential electricity to the grid. Instead of letting the immense heat generated by this process go to waste, we capture it and use it to create steam for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). This Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system achieves efficiency levels up to 80%—far surpassing conventional power plants.


Our commitment to efficiency doesn’t stop there. We are actively upgrading our GE LM2500 power units and rebuilding others to boost their output and dependability. This ensures we get the maximum energy from every unit of fuel, reducing both consumption and emissions.


Layering in Advanced Sustainable Energy Solutions

With a highly efficient foundation, the next step is to integrate advanced technologies that actively reduce and remove carbon emissions. This is where innovation becomes critical. Powerhouse Energy’s 5-Stage Development Plan is a testament to this forward-thinking strategy.

A key component of our plan is the implementation of Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). This technology allows us to capture CO2 emissions directly from our power generation facilities. We are currently evaluating two pathways:

  1. Carbon Sequestration: Permanently storing the captured CO2 in deep underground geological formations.

  2. CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery: Using the CO2 to increase production from existing wells while simultaneously storing it.


This proactive approach to decarbonization not only aligns with our environmental goals but is also economically smart, thanks to incentives like the Federal 45Q Tax Credit.


Building the Infrastructure for a Renewable Future

The ultimate goal of an integrated system is to pave the way for a future dominated by clean energy. This means building the necessary infrastructure today. At Powerhouse Energy, we are making significant investments in the technologies that will define the next generation of power.

A major part of our plan includes rebuilding a decommissioned power plant on-site and equipping it with modern, hydrogen-ready turbines. This prepares our facilities to run on cleaner fuels as they become widely available.


Furthermore, we are moving to build hydrogen and oxygen plants on our property. This will support an on-site electric and hydrogen fueling station and allow us to blend green hydrogen into the fuel mix for our turbines. This initiative is supported by expanding our solar footprint, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem where renewable energy is used to produce clean fuel, which in turn powers a more sustainable grid. This integrated vision—where solar, hydrogen, and efficient gas power work in concert—is the future of energy.
